Honoring Bob Parsons
When Robert Ellis Parsons passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 90, the Birmingham community lost a faithful friend, a loving family man, and a quiet yet impactful philanthropist. His life was marked by kindness, loyalty, and the gentle, steady grace of a man devoted to serving others—especially children.
Over three decades, Bob and his wife, Suzanne, supported many causes that helped young people, including Children’s Harbor. For 33 years, they contributed to our mission as members of the Founders Society—a lifelong pattern of care that led Children’s Harbor to be one of 27 organizations benefiting from Bob’s estate.
Bob’s quiet generosity extended into the community through personal acts of kindness. At Preschool Partners, he came every week for years to read to young children, delighting them with his animated voice and infectious enthusiasm. Lella Carl Hamiter, executive director of Preschool Partners, recalls, “They would greet him with hugs, fist bumps, high fives, and lots of love. Mr. Parsons always had a creative way to make the story come alive, which kept the children engaged and excited. Not only was he adored by the children at PreSchool Partners, but the staff was deeply impacted by his dedication, huge heart, and love! He is truly missed.”
Bob Parsons’ legacy is a reminder that true greatness often goes unheralded. With each child he read to, each friend he comforted, and each ministry he built up, he poured love back into the world. For all that he did, and for all the lives he touched, Children’s Harbor is profoundly grateful. His legacy will live on in the laughter of children who find hope and healing on our shores.
