Press Release – Children’s Harbor Receives American Camp Association Accreditation

Eclectic, Ala. – Children’s Harbor has officially received accreditation by the American Camp Association (ACA) at their Lake Martin campus. ACA is the only national accrediting body for all camp types with a focus on health, safety and risk management. This accomplishment brings with it evidence of Children’s Harbor’s commitment to the well-being of all camp programs.

“Becoming an ACA accredited program proves Children’s Harbor’s commitment to providing the absolute best and safest camp experience to the children and families we serve,” said Vicki Tuggle, chief operating officer for Children’s Harbor.

The value of an ACA Accreditation is found in the education provided in administering vital operation aspects regarding program quality, along with health and safety. It also provides an outline to best manage resources through policies and procedures. This is accomplished through a peer review process to review camp processes in comparison with professional and government-recognized standards.

Children’s Harbor began the process of ACA accreditation in late 2022 and officially acquired it in October 2023. This was completed after submitting written documentation of policies and procedures, along with a campus visit from ACA representatives. With more than 40 camps scheduled for 2024, this accreditation gives staff greater confidence in providing the safest and most exceptional experience for Children’s Harbor Mission and Community Partners, as well as Harbor Family Retreat attendees. The ACA Accreditation is active for renewal until another review in 2026.
