Peggy Knight, a beloved member of the Children’s Harbor community and proud Anchor Member, made a lasting impact that still echoes today. Her legacy is a testament to a life dedicated to service, generosity, and unwavering commitment to children and families in need.
Peggy had always been a trailblazer. After finishing high school, she embarked on a groundbreaking career in banking, quickly becoming one of the first female branch managers. She eventually became a Vice President at Regions Bank, where she was known for her dedication to mentoring younger workers and her unwavering commitment to excellence.
Peggy’s generous heart deeply connected with Children’s Harbor. She first learned about our work 25 years ago at a church event and felt an immediate pull to contribute to our mission. Peggy never had children herself, but her love and care for their well-being was evident. Her influence extended beyond her financial contributions. She inspired her family to engage with Children’s Harbor, making our cause a part of their life. Shaye Bradford, Peggy’s niece, recalls her speaking about Children’s Harbor with such emotion that it moved everyone around her, leading Shaye to say, “your cause is in our hearts.”
She often expresses joy in her giving with the words, “I’m going to keep giving as long as I can.” This promise was kept during her lifetime, notably, through an estate gift she left to our endowment. Peggy’s final act of generosity ensures that her support will continue to impact future generations to come.
