Harbor Happenings

The story goes that when the storms were the most severe and the seas were at their roughest, lighthouse keepers would ask the residents along the shore to put lights in their windows to help guide the storm-tossed sailors to safety. These lights became
known as the lower lights.

Children’s Harbor invites all of you to become a part of the lower lights. We have formed the “Children’s Harbor Endowment Fund” to help fund services to children with long-term serious illnesses and families who are caught on a raging sea of despair when the seas are at their roughest for them.

They also said they would like the gift to be put aside to earn income which would be used for services. We heard you, and we have responded with the Lower Lights Society.

To be a member of the Lower Lights Society, all you need to do is make a planned gift to Children’s Harbor through a bequest in your will (whether a specific amount or a percentage), a charitable trust, or through another vehicle such as a life insurance policy that names Children’s Harbor as the beneficiary. There is no minimum gift amount to become a part of this society, and you do not need to divulge the gift amount unless you want to.

If you wish to make a planned gift to Children’s Harbor, please give us a call at 334-857-2133 or 205-939-6123 and ask to speak to Jim Ray. His e-mail address is jimray@childrensharbor.com.

“My first involvement with Children’s Harbor was when my friend
Kathleen Nicholson asked me to help her clown at one of the fund raising events. The clowns, ‘Katee’ and ‘Pinky,’ had such a good time that I wanted to know more about Children’s Harbor. The more I learned, the more I knew this was an organization I wanted to support. Since my husband Tom came with me to some of the fund raising events, he also saw first hand what Children’s Harbor is about. All of the people we’ve met that are involved with Children’s Harbor have a dedication and commitment to helping others. Tom and I are proud to be part of Lower Lights.”
