12th Annual Children's Harbor Boat Show

12th Annual Children's Harbor Antique & Classic Boat Show

2007 Boat Show Cancelled

"With regrets we are canceling the 12th Annual Children's Harbor Boat Show scheduled for August 3 & 4, 2007 on Lake Martin near Alexander City, Alabama due to extreme low water conditions.  If you're not aware, southern Alabama is suffering from a drought.   Alabama Power and Light is controlling water run off at their dams to provide electrical power and navigational water depths for commercial river traffic.  Presently Lake Martin is down 8' from normal pool with predictions that it could be down 12' by August 1st.  Needless to say, this has impacted the availability of launch ramps and slips as well as presenting a navigation hazard for those not totally familiar with the waters.  We do expect the auction for the 1937 Chris-Craft 17' Racer donated by Alan Jackson will still take place.  Please watch this website for details.  Thanks to all of you for your past and present support of Children's Harbor and this event."

11th Annual Boat Show in Review

Invitation 12th Annual Children's Harbor Boat Show

You, your family and friends are invited to a great social event that will warm your heart. Children's Harbor and the Dixieland Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society have joined hands with Russell Marine at Ridge Marina to showcase your wood or fiberglass antique/classic boat at the 12 th Annual Children's Harbor Antique & Classic Boat Show on beautiful Lake Martin southeast of Alexander City, Alabama. This show is a charity benefit for Children's Harbor and the services it provides all year long for seriously ill children and their families. This past year we moved this event to August for the first time and we enjoyed superb weather and a great turn out of boats and visitors. We expect the weather will be grand again this year. The venue for the show will again be the expansive Ridge Marina which is located inside the Russell Lands residential development, The Ridge. This new location offers you the finest modern floating docks in a protected harbor of a recently completed marina.

We can accommodate fifty plus boats in the water with land display available if you desire that. A large tent will be erected for lounging and seating in addition to the air conditioned marina showroom and restroom facilities. There is a deep water launch ramp on site. The Ridge Marina's many and modern conveniences will ensure you a weekend of pure fun and good fellowship.

This year we are able to offer housing for boat registrants at the newly completed Harbor Lodge at Children's Harbor. There are forty-four units available in this complex with each room having a private bath and sleeping accommodations for up to five persons in each unit. The individual four unit lodge buildings are arranged in a circle around a central building named The Conference Center. We will be able to gather socially in this building. It is equipped with a kitchen, meeting and lounge facilities and rest rooms. Many of you have looked forward to seeing the Harbor Lodge completed. We hope you will plan on staying in this new facility. As always, additional accommodations are available at The Villas in Willow Point and at various motels in Alexander City . Details on all the accommodations available are included in a separate communication on this website.

We have a number of exciting events planned for this weekend. You'll want to arrive Thursday afternoon the 2nd or early Friday the 3rd to get your boat launched and be ready for the Noon lunch and scheduled boat rides for children and families from the Children's Harbor Family Center . People will be on duty both days to assist you with launching. On Friday afternoon after the boat rides, you'll have ample time to cruise the lovely waters of Lake Martin . At 6:30 that evening, Dixieland members Chris and Joanne Richardson will again open their beautiful Lake house to host a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres dinner.

Saturday's boat show display and accompanying events begin at 9:00 A.M. and conclude at 3:00 P.M. Activities include live band music, children's events, shore displays, and a silent auction. If you have items for the silent auction, be sure to bring them. Anything you have works! Feel free to put a minimum opening bid on the item you bring if you believe it is warranted. If you prefer, you may ship items for the silent auction to the Attn. of Tedra Medler at the Children's Harbor address at the close of this invitation. Breakfast, lunch and home made ice cream will be available from local vendors on site. Other surprises are still in the planning. Watch the Children's Harbor website for further announcements.

This antique and classic boat show is being heavily promoted in the cities of Birmingham and Montgomery and the communities surrounding Lake Martin . Large crowds are expected. We ask for your cooperation in keeping your boat on display during the a-fore mentioned time on Saturday. It would be nice if you could be on or near your boat in the peak crowd periods to answer questions that visitors may have about your boat. Saturday evening is reserved for you, your guests, fellow boat entrants, show sponsors and those that worked to make this event a success. At 6:30 P.M. a local caterer will provide an elegant hors d'oeuvres dinner with cocktails inside the cool confines of the Ridge Marina showroom. At approximately 8:30 the awards will be presented to close out the evening.

The prestigious Skipper's Choice Award will be a popular ballot of the boat entrants only, one vote per entered boat. One boat will be selected for the Skipper's Choice Award. People's choice awards will be determined by popular vote of the general public visiting the show as well as the boat entrants. We will have winner and runner-up awards for the categories of runabout, utility, skiff, outboard wood, fiberglass-all under age 1970 and non-mechanical powered. Additionally, we'll have a longest haul award and a couple of surprise awards. Trophies for all classes have been selected that reflect the special value we hold for our boats, and which your friends will admire.

Sponsors for the show will be recognized and honored. Their contributions are a direct and significant boost to the important programs at Children's Harbor for seriously ill children and their families. If you would like to be included among our several sponsors, please indicate this on the sponsor registration located else where on this website. Your thoughtful consideration to do so is appreciated.

If time permits on Sunday morning, you're invited to attend The Church in the Pines at 9:00 A.M.

Welcome to the show!
