Children's Harbor Provides Free Resources to Families Who Have Seriously Ill Children - The Word "Fee" or "Payment" Is Not In Our Vocabulary

Our primary effort is centered around the Children’s Harbor Family Center at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. The Family Center is a collaborative effort with Children’s Hospital of Alabama and provides family counseling and support services to children who have long-term serious illnesses as well as to their families. Children’s Harbor also provides camping and adventure services on our Lake Martin campus to these children and their families as well as other children and families with special needs. When not being used by illness groups our Lake Martin facilities can be rented by churches, businesses and individuals. Contributions from individuals, businesses, churches, clubs, foundations and others are used to provide services to the children and their families.

Three Reasons to Give

Most families cannot afford to pay for non-medical related services.
Most families need an opportunity to mix and network with other families who understand.
Children with long-term-stay illnesses and their families need a place to get away and relax.

Beanie Babies Donation

Nathan saved the day with his donation of 350 Beanie Babies to the Children's Harbor Family Center.

Nathan said, "Because everyone was so nice to me when I was here for many weeks, I wanted to give something back." He knew that we needed more Beanie Babies for our claw machine, so this became his mission.

Thank you so much, Nathan, for your big heart!! Thanks to your wonderful family, also.

Mom's Night Out

Church of the Highlands sponsored another great "Mom's Night Out" at the Family Center. This was a time for moms to "get away" and rewind, renew and refresh while being in the hospital with their children.

A team of ladies transformed the center into a spa-like atmosphere and served a wonderful meal fit for a queen. Then, the moms were pampered with various spa treatments including back massages, pedicures and manicures, facials, haircuts and hand paraffin dips.

Thank you Church of the Highlands and group leader Jackie Maniscalco for helping the mothers relax and energize. "A little pampering means a lot when you've been in the hospital for several weeks with your child."
